The French bulldog in this photo used to do nothing but bark at other dogs. He got over-whelmed and excited about them to the point that he couldn’t focus on anything but barking. This is 4 weeks’ Obedience class in Sydney, a training session once a week. He’s able to pass another dog without barking!
How long will it take to fix a behavioural issue?
I’ve been training dogs for over 10 years and the most common question I get asked is how long will it take to train a dog. And there’s no answer to that question. The learning depends on how committed the owner is to the training, severity of the issue, how long it’s been going on etc. Fixing behavioural issues isn’t easy due not only learning new behaviours but unlearning the old ones.
And when you start training your dog or fixing issues, the more consistent you are the faster and easier the training.
Very often owners start the training but don’t finish it or aren’t consistent enough. For example, let’s imagine a dog who’s reactive on lead. When you start training him, it means that every time you step outside becomes a training session. There are no day offs because your dog is learning all the time. It’s up to you what they learn!
Manage the Learning – Obedience Class Sydney
Like I said above, dogs learn all the time. That’s why we need to manage what they learn. An obedience class is a great way to manage your dog’s learning around other dogs, people and distractions. It’s a controlled situation with a professional dog trainer so the learning environment is the best possible for the both of you!
