Top 3 Things Dog Owners Do Wrong With Their Dogs
Here’s advice from your local dog trainer in Kingsgrove on what most of us do wrong.
1. Consider ‘backyard time’ as exercise.
A back yard is great, but it is not enough! Just because a dog has access to the backyard doesn’t mean that you can avoid walks. It’s not just the physical exercise they need but also the mental stimulation from exploring and sniffing.
2. Go to the dog park.
Too many people think that dog parks are a must-do for all dogs. This couldn’t be further away from the truth. The fact is, not all dogs enjoy the company of other dogs or they only enjoy certain type of other dogs. Forcing a dog into a dog park or attempting to ‘socialize’ a dog that’s showing very clearly they do not want it will only create more problems and increase aggression.
We should think of the dog park as a bar. I don’t personally like bars. They are too loud and I don’t enjoy being hit on by drunk guys. Just like the bar scene isn’t the right scene for all people, nor is the dog park the right scene for all dogs.
3. Feed out of food bowls.
Feeding your dog out of a puzzle or interactive toy (or toss it all over your back yard!) is a great and easy way to ensure mental stimulation on a daily basis. Food bowls are boring, change your routine today!
