Dog Behaviourist Sydney – Is Your Dog Out of Control at the Park?
If someone asked me what is my most common client like I would tell you this, they completely ignore their owners outside. This becomes a problem very easily since we all love to take our dogs out. And believe me it’s a lot nicer experience when your dog is under control. But why does it happen, why do dogs that adore us inside lose interest outside? Here’s advice from your dog behaviourist in Sydney.
Owners Become Passive
Let’s imagine that you go to a party. There are some people having great fun, joking around, jumping into a pool etc. Then there are a few people just standing around doing nothing. Which ones would you pay attention to, to the people having fun or the ones doing nothing? Of course, if you’re a very calm person who doesn’t enjoy crowds, you would enjoy the company of the people doing nothing. But if you went there to have fun, you wouldn’t pay any attention to those people right? This is true in dog world as well. Unfortunately, many owners become passive and boring to their dogs outside and dogs learn to seek entertainment elsewhere. Overtime they learn over-excitement behaviours and will become increasingly difficult to control outside. Basically, you’ve devalued yourself in the eyes of your dog.
Engage in Play or Training Outside
If you wish to gain control over your dog outside, you need to make yourself more interesting. Playtime and training are great ways to do this!
