How to Keep Dogs Off Furniture – Advice from a Dog Trainer in Inner West Sydney
Do you hate dog hair on your furniture? If so, you might like to keep your dog off them. Here’s advice from a canine trainer in Sydney.
Never Allow Him to Be on Furniture
If you don’t want your dog on furniture, it should never be allowed. It’s easier for a dog to learn when you are strict with it. Every time he tries to climb up, simply put him back down. Give him a kong toy with treats to focus on on the floor.
Manage Your Dog’s Furniture Access
First of all, management is once again the key aspect of this training. In this case, it means preventing your dog from having any opportunity to get on your furniture, even when you’re not home! It’s that simple!
You could remove the cushions from your sofa when you leave home, until your dog has developed a habit of sleeping elsewhere. Or you could use a baby gate to keep the dog out of the rooms with furniture you don’t want him to be on. Getting your dog his own, soft and very comfortable bed might also help!
