11TH DAY
NEW TOYS!
Playing with your dog is a great way to build a strong connection and bond with your dog. It teaches your dog to think that you are always fun to be around. It also prevents boredom based behaviours, like barking or destructive behaviours.
But most importantly playtime is also a training session when done right. It’s controlled fun and teaches your dog to work for you, which is the foundation for reliable basic obedience.
There are many ways to play with your dog. You can practise fetch with a ball or frisbee. You can make your dog use their nose and set up nose work exercises. Or you can have a good old tug-of-war with your best friend. But remember, you should never allow biting you or other kind of over-excitement while playing. This will only lead to more severe issues later on. Even playtime should always have boundaries.
If you need any help with your training or setting up playtime the right way, contact you dog trainer inner west Sydney today!
