Dog Trainer Beaconsfield – Advice on How to Stop Jumping Up
Dogs jump on people simply because they are excited. And they learn through experience that it’s an effective way of getting our attention. However, it’s not good behaviour, especially if you won a big dog. Luckily, it that can be easily prevented and managed using positive dog training techniques. Here’s advice from your local dog trainer in Beaconsfield.
How to Stop Your Dog From Jumping Up?
The best way to stop this annoying habit is to ignore your dog while she is jumping up. Don’t say anything, don’t look at her and most certainly, do not bend over to give her cuddles.
- Each time she jumps up at you, turn away from her.
- Do not look at, talk to, or touch her at all when she’s jumping up.
- When she stops jumping, wait for a few seconds and reward the self-control with your attention if she stays on the floor without jumping.
- If she jumps again, repeat the exercise. This must happen everytime she jumps up! Without consistency, you won’t get good results!
- Remember to practice this with friends and family members to generalise the behaviour.
