How to Succeed with Your Dog’s Training
Training dogs isn’t complicated, even though it does require an understanding of dogs and how they learn. However the more important factor is that it also requires you to learn how to be a good teacher. I work as a dog obedience trainer in Leichhardt and my main focus is always teaching people how to train their dogs – a dog is not the client, the owner is!
The most important thing to remember is that you need to take small steps towards your goal. If you think back to your school days, you probably remember how you started learning new things: from the basics. And then the learning got more complicated over time, right? We should remember this same thing with dogs.
Start at home
When you start training your dog, the first thing to focus on is where to do it at. Start in a place that your dog is most comfortable at and that has minimum distractions. This is usually your own home.
Add distractions one by one
When your dog is doing great at home we need to start thinking about proofing your commands. This means training in a way that ensures obedience in any situation and anywhere. Dogs can easily lose focus around distractions, so you need to start easy and add one distraction at a time. For example, you can train in presence of a friend visiting you. Even this can be very difficult if your dog loves people. Then when this is going well, you could try whether your dog can focus outside, somewhere calm to start with. You can make the training more challenging by simply changing the location and distraction level.
Join a dog training class
Joining a dog manners class might be a good idea to ensure that you know how to train commands correctly. Eazy Dog Training is your dog obedience trainer in Leichhardt and near by areas. In my classes I focus on every dog individually, making sure that everyone goes home with advice suitable for their personal needs.
