Advice from Eazy Dog Training Sydney
There’s one very common mistake a lot of my training clients make when training manners.
“Have your cake and eat it too” – type of thinking!
Most people that struggle with manners simply don’t follow through and be consistent with their manners training. I’ve heard this sentence many times “Oh, but I don’t want him to feel like he’s left out”. I’ve heard it from aggressive and reactive dog owners thinking that their dog should be allowed to socialise with others, from people with bad behaved dogs when they have guests over and anxious dog owners when the dog gets really needy and behaves badly because of it. What we need to remember is that dogs learn all the time, and the way they learn is through experience. They learn which ones of their behaviours get them what they want. So if a dog gets anything they want when behaving badly, the bad behaviour increases. It’s that simple. A bad behaved dog should not have the same benefits as a well behaved one. Train your dog first, then you can give them the things they want!
