Puppy School Sydney Training Tricks: Roll Over
Eazy Dog Training Sydney runs puppy schools in Queens Park, Marrickville, Leichhardt and Newtown. Our 4th lesson of the 4 week puppy school is all about mental stimulation. And trick training is an easy way to keep your pup entertained! Here’s how you can do it at home, advice from puppy school Sydney training:
‘Roll over’ is a fun trick
Remember, keep trick training light, fun, and short so that no one get’s frustrated.
How to Teach Your Dog to Roll Over
- First get your dog to sit, if they don’t have a good ‘down’ command. Then lure them down with a treat. Reward for lying down.
- Then we can start the actual rolling process: hold a treat right in front of his nose.
- When he takes notice, start moving the treat towards his shoulder blades so that he has to turn his head to follow it.
- Keep moving the treat across the shoulder blades while keeping it close to his nose. His head will follow the treat, forcing him to roll over in order to get it.
- When he rolls over, give him the treat and praise him!
- You will need to repeat this several times until he learns to roll over smoothly.
